MY NEW FAVE DRESSES + MOMMY TALK | The truth about having a baby. Plus, Lhuillier’s Bliss Collection means affordable Lhuillier!

This post is about Monique Lhuillier’s Bliss collection but I have to talk about life as a new mom first.  Also, baby pics :)

So.  I’ve been raising this infant I made for a total of eight weeks now, and it’s been interesting.  Well not interesting.  My days consist of feeding, burping, holding and putting to bed a ten pound lump of flesh formed by bringing my bowels to a halt for ten months.  (I was so constipated I could barely walk.)  And because of the sleep deprivation I feel weirdly high at all times but not in a good ‘I’m floating’ way, in a ‘I shouldn’t be driving right now’ way.  But I love her, I do.  So much.  So much it hurts.  It HURTS. how much I love her.  (And this coming from someone who never really planned on having children.)  If you’re a parent or were like really instrumental in raising your younger sibling cause your parents weren’t around much (it happens) then you know what I mean.  There’s really nothing like those little moments with your tiny.  Like her first ‘social smile’.  Or those first coos.  Or when she finally falls asleep in your arms so you can put her the fuck down and get some work done.  Really it’s amazing.

A couple of pics of my cheeky little Miss O to start things off…

Fact is, I’m still putting together my birth story for the blog.  Which is taking me forever I think because I have a touch of the PTSD following the experience.  No bueno!  STILL I’m committed to finishing it tho because I need to be able to review all the horrific details whenever I start to feel pangs of wanting another.  Gonna share pics of the little munchkin on this blog as she grows, in addition to the typical wedding related stuff, assuming you guys are into it…..I posted her huge feet on my Instagram recently so that’s a start…..I also still have to post a post about what I packed in my hospital bag and what I actually ended up using (MAJOR research went into it so I’m thinking it could be helpful to future moms), plus the other little-discussed real life stuff related to mommyhood and pregnancy.  Like breastfeeding (HUGE SIGH).  And what pregnancy is *really* like — not the stuff you read on Baby Center or the stuff you hear from your mom who wants you to procreate and so lies to you about how great it all is — the REAL stuff.  For example hemorrhoids.  Constipation.  Stretch marks.  How your relationship changes in certain ways.  Weight gain.  How if you want to have sex you physically cannot at a certain point, and that’s assuming you even want it.  I’d also like to get into which of my fears about pregnancy were valid and which ones were totally ridiculous.  (Very few were ridiculous I’m sad to report.)  Also also- I wanna blog about all the shit that helped me get through my pregnancy more comfortably.  Like drinking a cup of water with Innate Response’s Magnesium 300 powder mixed into it, every day.  Probably would have taken a total of two shits over a nine month period had I not added that drink to my diet.  It was a really intense nine months you guys.  Real real intense.  Also prenatal yoga was esssssennnnntiallllll.  Is there anything in particular you’d like me to discuss?  No shame in this game.

Where was I?

Oh yes, wedding dresses right…

Growing up (will get to the dresses shortly, I promise this has to do with the dresses) we lived on a bit of a hilly incline, seen here sort of:

bambino the french bulldog smelling the rose vase

{tulip planter from home goods, fyi}

and the two houses to our left sat a bit lower down on the hill.  This meant two things; that everyone came to our house to go sledding in the winter, and that thanks to sound traveling upwards me and my brother could hear literally every private conversation our neighbors ever had if they were outdoors, whether we wanted to or not.  (obviously we wanted to, who wouldn’t want to)

So one day when we were sitting on the back porch, I remember overhearing something kinda sad.  Our neighbors were talking about their daughter’s upcoming nuptials.  They discussed having to remortgage their home to finance their eldest daughter’s wedding.

Which is so STUPID.  Don’t do that.

But yeah so they did that.  And they were feeling the fallout and it’s all a pretty big downer so I won’t dwell.  Peeps have gotta get in their heads that a fantastically expensive wedding is totally cool and dope but *only* when you have the money to blow on it.  Otherwise you’re asking for a huge headache financially, emotionally and relationship-ly.  For what?  For the best goddamned party you’ve ever been to in your life?  Ok actually now I get it.

I feel you, big spenders.  That sounds awesome.

But still don’t do it.  Not because you shouldn’t… but because you don’t HAVE TO.  Take wedding dresses for example.  You don’t have to spend an arm and a leg even when great style and quality are paramount, not when there are new bridal collections falling from the clouds (like they literally look and feel as if made from clouds) created by fabulous designers that don’t cost near what you’d expect those designers to charge you.

Take Monique Lhuillier‘s (takes me 100 times to spell that name every time) Spring 2015 Bliss collection, which I was invited to experience and really enjoyed, on a visual and financial level (they range in price between $1200 and $4500).  These dresses are so bomb.  I want to be buried in one of these dresses.  I want a miniature one of them made for my cheeky cheeks so she can crawl down the aisle with me and we can look like a scene straight out of the Real Housewives (it just feels like something the housewives would do).

Below are the pics I was able to take before I fainted from how much I loved the pics I was taking, mixed in with the professional pics from Lhuillier.  Obvs the pics I took aren’t NEARLY as good as the professional ones but I figured I’d share them so you could get an idea of how the dresses wear in person and not on a photo shoot.  I’ve added style numbers for reference if you wanna get yoself one of these babies..

NEW BHLDN DRESSES + IF I CAN BE HONEST, I HATE YOUR SELFIE. | Motherhood, Selfie Hate and Some Dresses I’d Actually Wear.

$

Hey guys me again.

_instagram-selfie-hate-lace-bohemian-wedding-dress-BHLDN_11

I’m taking a vibrator (it’s mini) on a plane today, wish me luck.  I don’t know if it’s legal or not but I’m gonna find out the hard way.

Ok.  Honesty time.

Ever since I became a mom, every time I see a fellow mom on instagram post an exceedingly staged, attractive *look, i’ve got my shit together* selfie, I have to remind myself that there was probably about an hour of prep that went into that, with the makeup and the hair and the wardrobe selection and the kids not cooperating the whole time and how it was probably the best take out of like 100 takes, and that the worst of the takes probably sent the mom into a bit of a depression spiral.  It makes me feel better when it’s day three of not having showered and the bedsheets need changing.

Is that bad?

Instagram both inspires me and makes me want to curl into a ball in my closet and not exist for a little bit.

In other news, the ethereal nymphs working over at BHLDN sent some images to me and I’ve decided to share them, because LOOK AT ALL THE PRETTY DRESSES

From the ladies who sent over this great stuff:

BHLDN released its new November lookbook… the black and white imagery is a first for us.  It’s timeless and elegant, highlighting the extraordinary details and craftsmanship of our new gowns.  The assortment, called The Iconic Collection, captures the spirit of iconic women of both past and present.  The collection is luxurious but approachable and distinguishes style from trend.

Six NEW bridal looks include:

-              Zoe Gown by Catherine Deane ($1600)

-              Zahara Gown by Catherine Deane

-              Nova Gown by Tadashi Shoji

-              Barletta Dress by Watters

-              In Perpetuity Camisole by Natori ($160) and Anika Skirt by Catherine Deane ($500)

-              Francesca Topper by Tadashi Shoji (paired with our Seraphina Gown)

Now you guys, I have to be honest I don’t always feel like BHLDN nails it with the wedding looks they put out.  I don’t know about you but personally they’re usually too ‘bohemian alt’ for me.  I like looking at them but I probably wouldn’t go with one as my actual wedding dress choice.  But this time I think they nailed it.  I’d probably wear one of these.  Assuming I get my pre-baby body back :\  (<– that will happen, right?)

Are these dresses your style?  And does instagram bum you out sometimes too… anyone…

And do you want me to STFU about being a mommy (aside from posting the posts about my birth story and my personal tips for getting through pregnancy and birth) and just stick to the wedding stuff, even though it is my whole world now and I don’t know if keeping quiet about it here on the blog it is even humanly possible for me?

Tell me if this describes you:

1) You’re engaged…

bouquet wedding invitation

^ I love this bouquet themed invitation ^

I’m just having trouble deciding which of the color combinations I like best… I think it’s all of them?

2) You have a million ideas, or absolutely no idea, what you want to do about your save the date cards or wedding invitations or anything else stationery-related.  All you really know is that you want them to be spectacular, not too pricey, and extremely you.

Enter: The American Wedding Marketplace.  Here’s why we like them…

First of all – this is very important – they have really stellar reviews on the internets.  Brides describe their invitations as “great price, great quality,” “I would recommend [them] to anyone,” “significantly cheaper than other popular invitation makers, but I saw no difference in the quality, or the options offered,” and “just what we wanted… we got so many compliments on them.”

We also love the fact that The American Wedding Marketplace comprises three distinct brands – The American Wedding, MyGatsby and The Green Kangaroo.  What does this mean for you?  It means the site is teeming with stylish options for every possible style a bride or groom may have.  Styles you may not even yet realize you like are just waiting for you to find them, right here.

Even better, they’re completely customizable with unique paper colors, font options and ink pairings.

Hey, want some custom coasters for your guests to take home?  Check it out:

custom-coaster-wedding-favors

A note from The American Wedding Marketplace: Every week in 2015, we will be launching a new design on our website.  We’re always interested in hearing about what brides want to see and welcome their suggestions for new designs they would like to see in our lineup.  We also run some amazing deals so subscribing to our emails and following us on facebook is highly recommended!

One of our favorite features of this marketplace is the ease with which you can coordinate your custom invitations with not only the rest of your stationery suite (save the date cardswedding programs, the list goes on)…

penny-wedding-invitation-suite-violet-purple-stationery

^ the Penny invitation suite ^

… but with a ton more fun little details, like personalized wedding napkins, custom stampers, wedding glassware and more.  It’s thrilling, really.  I’ve been trying to reduce the amount of exclamation points I use in my writing recently, so I may not be coming across as amped as I, in fact, am.  So just trust that I am very, very, VERY amped about this.  Next to marrying your true love, custom details are among the most exciting elements of planning your wedding, IMO.  Don’t miss out.

Head over the The American Wedding Marketplace and start having fun with their designs right now!  Or whenever, no pressure.  You can request a catalog for free if you’d like to browse the old fashioned way.  Oh, and they give you your first five wedding invitations samples totally free of charge.  Thought you might like that. :)

As I’ve said before, I love Marie at Emici Livet and she is a goddess.  A goddess as in she is one of the kindest people you’ll ever meet and she cares about every piece – every bouquet, every sash, every ring pillow, every hair accessory, etc. etc – that she makes, as if it were her child.  That genuine love for her work, combined with unparalleled ability and technique (plus a very healthy obsession with perfectionism, lets be honest), always results in a one of a kind piece that’ll melt your eyes off and make you run to the doctor to get a new set of eyes just so you can start staring at it again.  I really am not overstating this, trust.  Her creations are like, really beautiful, and you’ll end up passing them down for generations whether or not that was your plan initially.
